Perhaps it’s fortunate that Connecticut has a history of fraudulent local elections which caused them to exercise some restraint and were less aggressive than Vermont in their handling of ballots. (There was historic cheating in Wallingford and other corrupt CT locales. And one of their frequent tricks has been to get a judge in Bridgeport to keep the polls open an extra 2 hours in the city because of some mechanical issue or another). But Vermont has gone full blown lunatic - it’s a complete honor system with zero audit trail. With control of the entire government at stake and with opposing candidates regularly painted by media outlets as the second coming of Hitler surely you can trust people to mind their conscience.
